What do soffit and fascia actually do?
Soffit is the underside of the roof overhang, and its perforations are your attic's air intake, feeding the ventilation loop that exits at the ridge. Fascia is the vertical board at the roof edge that carries the eavestrough and closes the roofline. One breathes, one bears, and both keep weather and wildlife out of the roof structure. Decorative is the least of their jobs.
